Sabum Eric Madis
Eric Madis began martial arts study in 1963, holds black belts in tangsoodo and taekwondo and was awarded 5th degree black belt in tangsoodo in 2012 by the United States Korean Martial Arts Federation. He began tangsoodo and taekwondo training in 1983 under Grandmaster Jung Kil Kim (MooDukKwan #123) and began teaching while still a student of GM Kim. He continued in tangsoodo under Grandmaster Jae Joon Kim (MooDukKwan #38), from whom he earned 2nd degree black belt (MooDukKwan #15710), and over the decades has trained with tangsoodo Masters Jung Lee, Mike Shintaku, Eric Kim, Dennis McHenry and Robert Davis. He also studied jujutsu and Goju-ryu karate 1964-1965 under Master Frank Goody (American Budo College), judo in 1965 at Northglenn Judo Club, aikido under Masters Gaku Homma and Bruce Bookman, military police-based self-defense (University of Illinois) and ITF taekwondo under Master Nhumey Tropp. Mr. Madis has a B.A. in physiological psychology from the University of Illinois (1975), is a published martial arts historian and was awarded Martial Arts Writer of the Year from the International Ryukyu Karate Research Society in 2014. He has been senior instructor at TangSooDo MooJiHwe of Seattle since May 1992 and has promoted 11 individuals to black belt ranks.
