Master (Sabum) Eric Madis - 5th dan
Eric Madis began martial arts study in 1963 while growing up in rural Colorado. His karate training began during the summers of 1964-65 with Goju-ryu under Shihan Frank Goody. Between 1965 and 1983, he studied judo (Northglenn Judo Club), military police self-defense (University of Illinois), aikido (Master Gaku Homma) and karate/kickboxing (Rich McMillan). He began training in tangsoodo in 1983 under Grandmaster Jung Kil Kim and senior instructor Master Jung Lee; then under Grandmaster Jae Joon Kim, from whom he earned 2nd dan (MooDukKwan Dan Bon #15710). Over the years he also trained in tangsoodo under Masters Dennis McHenry, Mike Shintaku, Eric Kim and Robert Davis, aikido (Master Bruce Bookman), ITF taekwondo (Master Nhumey Tropp) and hapkido (Grandmaster J.R.West). He earned 5th dan in TangSooDo in 2012 from the United States Korean Martial Arts Federation. Mr. Madis has a B.A. in physiological psychology from the University of Illinois (1975), is a published martial arts historian and was awarded Martial Arts Writer of the Year by the International Ryukyu Karate Research Society in 2014.
